Main ContentLaunched in 2016, the Health Innovation Institute at TCU was designed to expand and
evolve the work of Harris College’s existing centers, the Center for Collaborative
Practice and the Center for Translational Research.
HIIAT provides a unifying structure and leadership that better contribute to the advancement
of each center’s mission. Together, the two centers of HIIAT are committed to making
a meaningful difference through innovation and collaboration.
The implementation of evidence-based guidelines in practice settings can be challenging.
There are many variables to consider when instigating changes, revising guidelines
or translating new research ideas into practice.
The Center for Collaborative Practice makes implementing practice changes easier by
providing assistance and support to community partners.
- Acute care agencies
- Hospital systems
- Community health agencies
- Long-term care agencies
- School districts
By bridging research and practice, the Center for Collaborative Practice is able to
achieve evidence-based improvement.
- Bringing practice environments and expert academic faculty members together to assist
with implementing practice changes
- Educating staff members in performing research and implementing best-practice guidelines
- Facilitating practice change implementations with the potential to impact multiple
disciplines
- Introducing health care practitioners to best practices through the Evidence-Based
Fellowship

Rarely does one study incite practice change. The Center for Translational Research
bridges the gap between the laboratory bench and the bedside by combining research
findings, identifying best practices and helping patients, families, consumers and
practitioners answer questions about how to make health care decisions.
The Center for Translational Research collects information from a range of sources
and source types, including case studies, formal studies and expert opinions. This
breadth of scope creates actionable steps founded in the best information available
and results in a valuable resource for practitioners and policymakers.
